Origins
Phillip Rootes An abstract of his will, written 13 Aug 1756/7 in King and Queen Co.,VA. Found in "Some Wills from the Burned out Counties of VA", by William Lindsay Hopkins, 1987.
- Wife, not named, four daughters, viz., Elizabeth Rootes, Mildred,Rootes, Priscilla Rootes and Mary Rootes. Four sons, Thomas Reade Rootes, John Rootes and George Rootes
- land bought of William Hill, Robert Porteus plus land in New Kent Co.,Richmond Town in Henrico County, Spotsylvania County, and in Fredericksburg.
- Sons John Rootes and George Rootes are underage.
- Exors: Col. John Robinson County, Humphrey Hill, sons Phillip Rootes,Thomas Reade Rootes and John Rootes.
- Wit: David Ker, John Symmer, John Metcalf
- Notes with this abstract detail the next generation for all eight children. It states that Elizabeth Rootes became Elizabeth Thompson, wife of John Thompson, Mildred Rootes became Mildred Smith, wife of Augustine Smith, Priscilla Rootes became Priscilla Grymes, wife of Benjamin Grymes and Mary Rootes became Mary Thornton wife of Anthony Thornton in May 1772.
All four of the sons of Captain Philip Rootes of King and Queen County seem to have died intestate and insolvent.
