About Priscilla Tomes
Priscilla (spelled Prishillah in early records) was the first wife of Francis Toms / Tomes. She attended a meeting preached by the famous Quaker missionary William Edmondson in 1672 and together with her husband was converted at that time. She also met George Fox during his missionary visit to America and the Perquimans Monthly Meeting was held in her home for many years. She was the mother of the following children:
Priscilla Toms (1674 - )
Penelope Toms (1668 - )
Mary Toms Newby (1670 - )
Francis Toms (1672 - )
Joseph Toms (1677- )
Caleb Toms (1679- )
Joshua Toms (1679- )
Priscilla died between 1679 and 1683.
Priscilla's actual grave site is unknown since early Quaker graves were unmarked or labeled with simple initials. She is placed here since the Welles Meeting was near where she lived.
[Because Quaker headstones do not have individual names on them, PLEASE DO NOT REQUEST INDIVIDUAL PHOTOS].
