".The Holcombe family moved from Prince Edward Co., VA to Granville Co., NC, in the mid 1700's. Benjamin Holcombe had land in Bute Co., NC, in 1760, and signed a paper in 1765 for land "where I now live in Bute County." Benjamin Holcombe soon migrated to SC where he received land Sept 17, 1770 on Dining Creek, branch of Fairforest, Berkely Co. His land was bounded by lands of Ralph Jackson, Sr., Soloman Smith, Thomas Greer, Sr. & William Vaughan.
From this land on Dining Creek, Benjamin Holcombe gave two acres to the
Fairforest (Lower) Baptist Church.
Benjamin Holcombe made a will 13 Aug 1796 & was probated 17 Oct 1798. His benefactors were: Alice Bogan Holcombe, his wife, and the following children:
1.. Phillip. He was very active in the work of the church. He served as a deacon, was placed on many committees and was a delegate to the Bethel Association. He served in Brandon's Regiment during the War. He m. Sarah FARMER. His will was probated July 4, 1820. He named the following: Sarah, wife, and children: Elizabeth LITTLE w/o George LITTLE, Catharine, w/o George BURTON, Charlotte w/o Aqron HARLAN & David.
2.. Rachel m. William GREER
3.. Neville b. abt 1760 & d. 7 Nov 1832 served in Rev War.. He married Leodicea (Dicey) BOBO, d/o Lewis BOBO. They had the following children: Jane m. Caleb GREER, Darius Prince, Hampton H. (died unmarried), Patsy m. Cleemon HOWARD, Mary, m. James N. HAY, Dicey m. her cousin, David HOLCOMBE, Susan m. Isaac SMITH, Tabitha m. James PRESSLEY, Cassandra m. Nathan HAWKINS & Neville, Jr.
4.. Solomo
5.. a daughter who married COMER, grand daughter, Franky COMER.
6.. Jesse died according to Fairforest (Lower) Church minute book, Sept 1837. He served in the Rev War and was paid for his service 20 May 1786. He is first mentioned in church minutes in 1811. Must have married twice, 1) Nancy PORTER. Several of the chilgren were: Benjamin Jr., Susannah m. MULKEY, Nancy, Elizabeth Malone, Jesse Jr. Several other children have been identified as the children of Jesse: Hancock, Hosea, Mevill, Isaiah, Daniel Johathan.
