Biography

Prudence Waldron, only daughter of William Waldron, the immigrant, who was baptized at Alcester, Warwickshire, England, October 18, 1601 and came to Dover, New Hampshire, about 1635. Her father purchased a part of the Schrewsbury Patent, which was located in the southern part of what is today Straham, New Hamphshire, where Prudence and her husband eventually lived and died.[1]

Around 1661, Prudence married Richard Scammon, Jr. born probably in England and migrated to America with his father, Richard Scammon. They lived first at Dover, where at least two of their children were born. Her husband acquired the lands purchased by her father, and settled on it in 1665. The children of Prudence and Richard are:[1]

Richard Scammon, III, born circa 1662
Thomas Scammon, born circa 1663
William Scammon, born February 29, 1664, probably at Dover. (The family settled on Shrewsbury Patent in 1665) William received the lands of his maternal grandfather, William Waldron, obtained by his father. by deed, in 1691. He married, January 4, 1721, Rachel Thurber, of Rehoboth, Massachusetts
Jane Scammon, born July 21, 1667, married name Deane, received lands from her brother William, March, 1721, after the death of her mother, Prudence, and by her request
Prudence Scammon, born August 29, 1669
Elizabeth Scammon, born April 22, 1671
Mary Scammon, born May 31, 1673
After deeding the homestead at Stratham to his children, in 1691, Richard died sometime before December, 1697. Prudence survived him some years, but died before March, 1721, which we know from a transfer of lands between her son William and her daughter Jane (Scammon) Deane.[1]

Prudence passed away after 1691 (husband's death) and before 1721 (children made deals on her former property)
