About Pte. George Gill
George Gill was the son of George Gill and Mary Ann Chambers Gill (nee Stuart), of Coldwells Cottages, Longhaven, Cruden, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. During World War I he served from New Zealand with the Canterbury Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion. George was wounded in France and died of his wounds at the 2/1st South Midland Casualty Clearing Station on 17 September 1916. He was buried in the Dernancourt Communal Cemetery Extension. His brother Arthur Gill served with the 5th Gordon Highlanders (WWI 241460) during World War I. Arthur died of wounds in France on 29 July 1918 and was buried in the Nécropole Nationale de Compiègne.
