Aquilla served in the Eighth Regiment Connecticut Line during the Revolutionary War from 177t to 1779, enlisting when he was 16 years old. He served as a Private under Col. John Chandler, Capt. Samuel Mattock's company, until Jan. 1, 1780. His home in Connecticut was in the towns of Norwalk and Stamford, in Fairfield Co. He then returned to Vermont, and then entered the war again in 1781, and served as a private in Capt. Steven Culkin's company. He fought with Ethan Allen at the battle of Ticonderoga. He had nine children born in Vermont and Connecticut. Sometime after the war, he moved to Barre, Orleans, New York.
. He married Sarah March 1, 1785 in Stamford, Connecticut. They had several children including Lewis who farmed in Orleans County and in Vassar in Tuscola County, Caroline A. who married Benjamin F. Holland and also lived in Vassar and Orleans County, and Hiram who stayed in Orleans County.
Aquilla and Sarah's family lived in Greenwich, Connecticut in 1790, Peru, New York in 1800, Bristol, Vermont in 1810 Sweden, New York in 1820, Barre in Orleans County, NY in 1830, and farmed in Wayne County and in Romulus in the late 1830s. Aquilla died in about 1838 when he was thrown from his horse.
