Company I, 13th Tennessee Infantry, Vaughan's Brigade, Cheatham's Division, 1st Corps, Army of Tennessee, C.S.A.

Enlisted 3/5/1862 at Morning Star, Shelby County, TN; mustered into Company L, 38th Tennessee Infantry as a Private. (Company L was subsequently redesignated Company I.) Present, on all Rolls until wounded 12/31/1862 in the Battle of Stones River, Murfreesboro, TN. Transferred into Company C, 13th Tennessee Infantry in exchange for Pvt. W.W. Seats. Present on all Rolls until listed as Absent, on Furlough on the Jan & Feb 1864 Rolls. Admitted July 9, 1864 into Concert Hall Hospital, Montgomery, AL. Paroled 5/1/1865 at Greensboro, NC.

Postwar he lived in Tennessee until moving to Caroline County, VA. in 1901. On 2/23/1907, living in Croxton, Caroline County, he applied for a Confederate Disability Pension due to "old age."; approved 6/18/1907.

"Jno. Bondurant's remains were laid to rest in the County Line church yard yesterday. He was placed by the grave of his wife, who preceded him but by several years. He leaves an only daughter, Mrs. A.G. Smith, of near Croxton, with whom he had been living at the time of his death." (Fredericksburg) The Daily Star - March 25, 1910.

The 38th Infantry Regiment, formerly the 8th (Looney's) Regiment, was organized at Camp Abington, Fayette County, Tennessee, in September, 1861. The men were recruited in the counties of Shelby, Madison, and Wilson.
