Volunteered for service to the Confederacy. Was a member of Co. G, 37th Regiment, Alabama Volunteers. Participating in the following battles: Iuka, Corinth and Vicksburg, Mississippi: Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge, Tennessee; Tunnell Hill, New Hope Church and Kennesaw Mountain, Georgia where he was taken prisoner and sent to Rock Island, Illinois until the close of the war. He lived in Talbot county Georgia for 25 years running Owen's Mill and was correspondent to the New Era paper. He later moved to Langdale, Alabama where he died and was buried in Langdale Cemetery.
