Missouri, Civil War Service Records of UNION Soldiers 1861-1865 Morrison M. Lee date: 1861- 27th Mounted Infantry" Morrison Lee officially mustered out Feb. 15, 1862, the entire Regiment was Discharged on one of 2 days, Jan. 27, 1892 or as indicated on this card Feb. 15, 1862. Morrison Lee died in Sedalia, Pettis, Co. of fever, Nov. 5, 1861. In Feb. 1862 the entire regiment was mustered out at the same time." as per wikipedia "First Battle of Lexington" "all prisoners were "pardoned" even the commander Col. Mulligan." "Harpers Weekly" has the story along with a sketch of the prisoners getting "spoken" to by the Ex-Governor Jackson. The 27th MO was cut-off before they got to Lexington, MO.and not many of them made it to be Captured in Lexington."
The next part of Morrison's history is going to be dedicated to his Regiment, he may have only spent 3 months in the service of his country but he did give his life for it and because he did JOIN-27th Missouri Infantry, Mounted. some of their names, ranks- how they left the Regiment,on their muster cards.
Lee, Morrison M -31 **"Furnished horse & equipment, valued at $55. Died in Pettis Co., of the fever-Nov. 5, 1861"
After the war was over the government hired men to disinter all the unmarked and mass graves that men were buried in and they were moved to the closest National Cemetery and reburied as UNKNOWN SOLDIERS".. As an UNKNOWN he/they still could be buried in the prairie of "Sedalia, Pettis MO." where the Field Hospital stood.
Morrison Lee's name does in deed appear on one of the other sides of the Memorial statue.
