About Pvt. Nicholas Broyles Gann

Nicholas Gann served in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War in Company B, 11th Missouri Infantry Regiment. He enlisted on August 7, 1862 in Keetsville, MO. He deserted on December 30, 1862 in Marasel. He arrested by the Union on January 11, 1863 in Fayetteville, AK. He did not wish to be exchanged and was instead was sent to Gratiot Street Prison in St. Louis, MO on March 29, 1863. He was discharged on April 2, 1863.

"11th Infantry Regiment [also called 2nd Regiment], formerly Burns' 8th Regiment, was organized during the winter of 1863-1864. The unit served in Parson's and S.P. Burns' Brigade, Trans-Mississippi Department, and fought in Arkansas and Louisiana. It lost 5 killed and 44 wounded at Pleasant Hill and 2 killed and 15 wounded at Jenkins' Ferry. Early in 1865 it disbanded. The field officers were Colonel Simon P. Burns, Lieutenant Colonel Thomas H. Murray, and Major James Phillips."

Burns'/Hunter's original regiment (designated as the 8th Missouri Infantry) saw action at the Battle of Helena and during Shelby's Missouri/Arkansas raid of Sept/Oct. 1863. As designated the 11th Missouri Infantry, this regiment engaged the Federals during the Red River Campaign, Battles of Pleasant Hill, and Jenkins' Ferry among others."
