John was a farmer. He is reputed to have served on the Union side in the American Civil War. It is unlikely, because of his age. He is believed to have been born in 1806 (tombstone). However, his other records indicate he may have been born around 1810 to 1813. His death record lists him as being 82 years of age at the time of his death. That would make his birth year 1813. At the very least, John would have had to have been 47 years old in 1861. If he was born in 1806, he would have been 55 in 1861. Military records do exist for a John Prunty serving on the Union Side in the American Civil War. They are for a younger man.
