Oliver Wood was born in Concord, Massachusetts in 1730. He was a member of one of the earliest families to settle in Concord. He was a veteran of the French and Indian War, serving with the colonial troops alongside the British Army. He married Lucy Hosmer in 1750, and continued to live in Concord until 1774, when he moved his family to the tiny wilderness settlement of Norridgewock. Shortly after they moved from Concord, both his and Lucy's families played noteworthy roles in the events leading up to and on the day of the Battle of Concord, starting the American Revolution. After returning to Massachusetts for a short time to serve in the Revolution, he returned to Norridgewock and lived there for the rest of his life. He was the justice of the peace in Norridgewock and adjacent communities for many years. He died in Norridgewock in 1814.
Lucy Tarbell Wood was the second wife of Oliver Wood. Oliver Wood's first wife was Lucy Hosmer Wood, who died in 1784 in Norridgewock.
