Private, Company G, 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry. Missing in action at St. Mary's Church, Virginia, on June 15, 1864. The regimental roster reports he was "no doubt killed". Register of Pennsylvania Volunteers reports, "killed, date unknown." Pennsylvania State Archives says he was killed at "Old Church Hotel, VA." Death probably occurred in 1864 based on his widow's early 1865 pension application.
Wife Elizabeth Gump filed for a widow's pension on November 27, 1865, application number 116,104, certificate number 125,156. Listed as a farmer in Whitley Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania with wife Elizabeth and two-year old daughter Louisa.
