רבי יהושע העשיל נולד בכ"ד באדר תר"כ לרבי יצחק יואל מקנטקוזבה. היה חתנו של דודו רבי פנחס מסוקלובקה. לאחר פטירת אביו בשנת תרמ"ה החל לכהן באדמו"רות באומן ובמונסטריץ'. כאביו סבל אף הוא ברוסיה ובשנת תרפ"ד היגר לארצות הברית. שם התיישב בבראנזוויל שבניו יורק. חיבר ספרים רבים ביניהם: "דברי יהושע" (על התורה), "תורת אבות" (על מסכת אבות) ו"נחלת יהושע". נפטר בכ"ו בניסן תרצ"ח[1]
