Paul Turney, age 93, of Chadwick, Illinois died Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mt. Carroll, Illinois. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at the Hope United Methodist Church, Chadwick, with burial in the Chadwick Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Chadwick. A memorial fund has been established.

Paul was born July 26, 1920 in Fulton, Illinois, the son of Edgar and Freida (Bell) Turney. On April 19, 1942 Paul married Beth Elaine Kahler at the Black Oak parsonage, rural Chadwick. They celebrated 71 years of marriage. Beth passed away May 27, 2013.

Paul served in the US Navy during WWII as a Radarman aboard the LSM 317. He worked as a trucker for several companies before owning his own truck. Paul later worked as a Rural Mail Carrier for the Chadwick Post Office from 1957 to 1984, when he retired. Paul was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church, where he served several years as janitor, on the Board of Trustees and as a substitute teacher at Sunday School. He was a member and Past Commander of the Chadwick American Legion, past Boy Scout Leader, and served on the Chadwick School Board. Paul liked his community and loved the time he spent with family.

Paul will be dearly missed by his son, Gary Turney of Chadwick; four daughters, Mary (Duane) Aude of Chadwick, Margaret (Tom) Diehl of Rockton, Illinois, Jennifer VanDeVelde of Papillion, Nebraska and Julie (Edwin) Logue of Meza, Arizona; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a brother, Eddie Turney of Maquoketa, Iowa; and a sister, Mae Strohecker of Oregon, Illinois.

Paul is preceded in death by his wife, Beth; a son, David; son in-law, Vince VanDeVelde; daughter in-law, Pat Turney; five brothers, Fred, Gail, Blaine, Loran, Glen and Lyle; and two sisters, Blanche and Dorothy.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: May 13 2024, 22:09:08 UTC
