About Raúl Modesto Castro Ruz, Presidente de Cuba
Raúl Modesto Castro Ruz (born 3 June 1931) is a Cuban politician who is currently serving as the 18th President of Cuba succeeding his brother Fidel Castro in February 2008. In 2011, he was appointed First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.
Previous to being appointed Acting President of Cuba in July 2006, he served as the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces from 1959 to 2008. His ministerial tenure made him the longest serving minister of the armed forces. As a consequence of predecessors' illness, Castro was designated the President of the Council of State in a temporary transfer of power. Castro was officially made President by the National Assembly on 24 February 2008, after Fidel Castro, who was still ailing, announced he would not stand for President again on 19 February 2008.
Castro was re-elected President on 24 February 2013. Shortly thereafter, Castro announced that his second term would be his final term, and that he would not seek re-election in 2018. He announced on state television on 21 December 2017 that he will step down as Cuban president on 19 April 2018 after his successor is elected by the National Assembly following the parliamentary elections. He is expected to retain his position as First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba.

Raúl Modesto Castro Ruz es un militar y político cubano, hermano menor y colaborador de Fidel Castro. Es actual presidente del Consejo de Estado de Cuba y del Consejo de Ministros, por tanto, presidente de Cuba desde el 24 de febrero de 2008, aunque desempeñaba el cargo de manera interina desde el 31 de julio de 2006. Es, desde abril de 2011, el primer secretario del Partido Comunista de Cuba, sustituyendo también a su hermano Fidel en dicho cargo. Raúl es, de conjunto con su hermano Fidel Castro, uno de los líderes de la Revolución cubana. Integró el conjunto de hombres y mujeres que participó en el asalto al cuartel Moncada en julio de 1953. Integrante de la expedición en el Yate Granma, fue uno de los líderes del Ejército Rebelde que, comandado por Fidel Castro, combatió a la dictadura de Fulgencio Batista entre 1956 y 1959. Tras el triunfo de la Revolución, se dedicó a dirigir las Fuerzas Armadas Cubanas como Ministro desde 1959 hasta febrero de 2008. Ostenta el grado militar de General de Ejército y posee, desde 1998, el título honorífico de Héroe de la República de Cuba. Wikipedia ES
