Rabbi David Wichefsky was Sudbury's first rabbi and Hebrew teacher. David Wichefsky came to Sudbury from Montreal as a Rabbi, shochet and teacher in 1894 with his wife Esther raised their seven children. The family name was later changed to Witchel. David's son Jacob, the second eldest, was born before the family immigrated. Jacob married Bella Cohen in Montreal in 1918. They had six children: Doris, Jess, Shirley, David, Thora, and William (Bill). The Witchels are related to the Moses and Magder families of Sudbury. OJA, Acc #2008-8-18
