About Rabbi Israel Kessler
Prominent scholar and teacher of the lower east side who was known as the "Red-headed" Rabbi. He also published the sefer "Zichron Yisroel", which is a compilation of his scholarly rabbinic commentary on the Torah and includes a dedication to specific friends/Rabbis and family members. The dedication page shows his family as a multi-generational Rabbinic family. He also wrote (in Yiddish) a light-hearted rhyming version of a purim megillah called "Megillas Achashveros", dated 1918 and published in NY. It has been said by family members that if you gave him a name, he could write an entire poem about it. As an esteemed Badkhen he was not only the scholarly entertainment ("MC") to many a Chassidic wedding, but also their officiating Rabbi, including one of his last weddings, the union of his grand-daughter Fay Goldberg to Lew Gans.
