About Rabbi Israel ben Meir di Korial/di Curiel
https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/judaica/ejud_0002_0005...
Israel ben Me’ir di Curiel was an important but little-known talmudist and preacher. Born sometime before 1500, he studied in the academy of Joseph Fasi in Edirne (Adrianople). Early on Curiel had his own academy, students, and followers. He moved to Safed after 1538, and there was one of four scholars ordained by Jacob Berav, the other three being Joseph Caro, Moses de Ṭrani (also known as Mabiṭ), and Abraham Shalom. The biographies and writings of Caro and de Ṭrani are well known; those of Curiel and Shalom less so. Curiel was devoted to the study of Jewish law, but spent much of his time on homiletic endeavors. He was one of the most outstanding and significant preachers of his time, and according to his grandson Israel Najara, many of the students in Najara’s yeshiva studied Curiel’s sermons. Curiel died in Safed around 1577. His writings, mostly sermons, are scattered in various manuscripts and libraries; the few that were published were ascribed to Joseph Caro, who had the same Hebrew initials as Curiel. A collection of all his extant sermons was published in 1992.
