R' Markus [Mair] Knopfelmacher, aka “R’ Mair Zlin”, b. Holesov, 1761, was the eldest son of Jacob [Juda] Knopfelmacher and wife Jachid. His rabbinical service began in Zlin where he served as rabbi for many years. He is later seen in Holesov (1819), then Uhersky Brod (1821), before eventually returning to Holesov.

On 27 October 1815, he purchased synagogue seat #106 in Holesov, formerly belonging to his recently deceased uncle, Aaron Tauber (1747-1815). In this document, he is listed as "Markus Knopfelmacher" but the Hebrew writing next to his name refers to him as "Meir Zelin" [or Mair from Zlin]. On 11 September 1821, by then a resident of Uhersky Brod, he sold the synagogue seat to Elias Fall.

He is identified as the eldest son of Jacob Knopfelmacher in a legal document produced on 4 Oct 1798 – just one day after the death of Jacob – which divides property among Jacob’s heirs. Also referenced in this document are Jacob’s widow, Jached, two other sons, Joachim and David, and two sons-in-law, Bernard Eisler and Joachim Reiss.

He was familiant No. 226 in Holesov. He d. in Holesov, 14 Sep 1848, age 87: “Markus Knopfelmacher, age 87, familiant #226, d. household #47, 14 Sep 1848.”

His first wife was Anna, b. 1761. She died in Uhersky Brod, 28 Sep 1821, age 60.

R’ Markus [Mair] Knopfelmacher m. 2nd, 3 Sep 1822, widow Dobrisch Berger, aka “Barbara”, b. c1763 [fl. 1759-1765]. Her first husband was Elias Berger (1743-1817) of Tumatshau [see BERGER]. Marriage record: “Markus K’macher, age 56, widower, and Dobrisch Berger, age 58, m. 3 Sep 1823.” She died on 4 Nov 1840: “Barbara Knopfelmacher, age 77, wife of Markus, d. household #47, 4 Nov 1840.” Holesov, 1830: [household #47.d] KNOPFLMACHER, Dobrisch– previous occupant: HERZKA, Benedikt.
