Prager Tagblatt, 5 March 1933, obituary for Rabbi Prof. Moses STARK: (posted under "Media")

Transcript of original German version:

"Rabbiner Stark gestorben.

English translation.

"Rabbi Stark has died. Former rector of the Prague Rabbinate Council and teacher Professor Moses Stark died yesterday in his ninety-first year.

Stark was born in Kubin (Slovakia) and studied at the Pressburg School for Rabbis. He counted among Pressburg Rabbi Kjas Sofer's (Moses SOFER's) favourite students. During this time he also achieved matriculation at grammar school. After a period spent in the role of Rabbi at Horazdovice he came to Prague as a teacher of religious studies at the Nikolander-Realschule and the Talmud-Thora-Schule. At the same time he was appointed as Rabbi of the Vinhoradhy district in Prague. He penned several works dealing with social or cultural issues based on the Talmudic principles. The last end-of-year report from the Nikolander-Schule featured an article written by Stark "The Holy Scribes". Mourning beside the bier of the deceased - whose 90th birthday, two months ago, gave rise to great celebratory tributes - was his son, Dr. Julius Stark, lawyer in Bodenbach. The funeral takes place tomorrow at 2.30 in Straschnitz.

(Our picture shows the last sketch by Robert Hofmann of him made shortly before Stark's death.)"

And "last but not least" just a nice little detail:

- From Friedrich "Fritz" GUTH's*** memoir (re. end-of-year examinations in secondary school in Prague):

"There were other guardian angels during these written tests. Rabbi Stark stood behind those boys who were bogged down in translations. He corrected and completed - and couldn't have cared less whether the sufferer was Catholic, Protestant, or Jewish."
