About Rabbi Samuel Tauber
F. Hillel, Die Rabbiner und die verdienstvollen Familien der Leipniker Gemeinde
R. SAMUEL TAUBER, b. c1743, died in Leipnik, 16 May 1791, age about 48. He possibly lived in households #18 and #50. See Landbook 1, Image 114: he is named -- Samuel Jakob Darnowitz -- with his four of his daughters, Theresia, Mariana, Anna, and Ewa.
Chevra Kadish manuscript: “Rabbi Shmiel Darnowitz buried 13 Iyar 5551” [17 May 1791]
His first wife’s name was almost certainly Jüske. She was likely a Turk by birth, which would explain why her son, Wolf, was “Wolf Turk recte Tauber”. She was b. c1745 and probably died about 1779.
Following the death of his first wife, R’ Samuel Tauber m. 2nd, c1780, Bieta, b. 1749, who was almost certainly a Bachrach by birth. This would explain why her daughter Marianna was “alias Bachrach”. Bieta was a “widow, age 60”, when she d. in House No. 32, 25 Oct 1809.
In 1786, “Samuel Jakob Darnowitz” is seen in legal documents dealing with the legal status of his four youngest daughters, all of whom were under the age of 10. Samuel’s older children, Wolf, age about 16, Pessel, age 14, and Moses, age 11, are not mentioned
