Comments

Curious if anyone has done much research on the wife (wives?) of this Ebenezer Prescott.
In Watertown, Middlesex December: the 5th: 1711: Ebenezer Prescott of Lancaster & and Ruth Hobart of Grotton Were Joyned in Marriage by Jonas Bond Justice of the Peace.

In Lancaster:

1714, ... June 6. Ebenezer Prescott & his Wife owned ye Covenant and had yr Daughter baptized Sarah.

1722, ... July 15. Jonathan Son of Ebenezer Prescott, ...

They also had Ebenezer and Patience, though I've seen no record of the latter.

I guess my real question is whether Ebenezer (Sr.) was married a second time, as 'Ruth' only appears in the marriage record above. All other references to Ebenezer's wife call her 'Rachel.'

25 January 1723/24, John Prescott, Sr., "for and in consideration of the trouble and care that hath been manifestly occasioned by me the said John Prescott unto my son Ebenezer Prescott of the said Lancaster and to his wife Rachel Prescott, and also upon account of what further care and trouble they may be expected to, by my continuance under much weakness and indisposition," etc., gives to them a sum of money" and "all his movable and personal estate. ... (Middlesex Deeds, lib. 26, fo. 89.)" (NEHGR, Vol. LXIX)

In Lancaster, Rachel Prescott Wife of Ebenr: Prescott is added to the Church of Christ 14 July 1728. Am I correct in thinking that this is indeed a second wife?

22 June 1738, Ebenezer Prescott of Lancaster, yeoman, sells to Samuel Bailey of Dudley, yeoman, a part of his farm, Rachel his wife also signing. (Worcester Deeds, Vol. XLIX)

Rachel is deceased by 7 June 1748, when Ebenezer Prescott of Lancaster, blacksmith, sells to Uriah Eager of Marlborough, gentleman, a tract of land in Lancaster. In Witness whereof I with my now married wife Rachel she freely consenting, etc. NB: when the Deed was wrote it was not known by the scribe that the woman above named was Dead. (Vol. XXVII)
