Rachel Clark, the daughter of William Clark and Elizabeth Isaacs, was born June 9, 1823, traditionally in Sabine County, Texas. The 1860 and 1880 Census of Harrison County, Texas shows she was born in Louisiana. She was almost 16 when she married the 26 year old Emanuel LaGrone on April 17, 1839, probably in Sabine County. It is possible their oldest son William Madison was born in Sabine County, but their other six children were traditionally born in Harrison County. The children were:
William Madison (1840-1862) Franklin S. (1844-bef 1850) Cyrus or Syrus Wilson (1846-1886) Jacob Belton (1848-1936) Susan Melvina (1851- 1906) Surmantha Jane (1858 - bef 1870) Catherine Frances (1859-1902)
Rachel Clark LaGrone died in Harrison County on October 6, 1893 at the age of 75 years, 3 months and 27 days. Rachel, her husband Emanuel and at least five of their children are buried in the Old LaGrone Cemetery that is located directly across the Highway from the LaGrones Chapel Cemetery. Her tombstone stated she was born on June 15, 1823, but Emanuel's Bible stated her birth was on June 9, 1823.
