Larkin & Rachel Lindsey used to be buried at the front of the Cowee Baptist Church Cemetery next to the parking lot, when I visited in the 1980's that's where their markers were. I've since been told that the Cowee church has put some other couple in their gravesites, and discarded their cemetery markers to the back of the cemetery.

I have heard of rotating graves in Europe, where Catholic churches have family plots which are used over & over because church burial sites became filled centuries ago & the land is all used up. In Europe, Catholics believed it was imperative to be buried on 'holy ground' in order to get a place in heaven. But I have never seen this done here in America where we have plenty of land space to expand cemeteries, and Baptist's do not believe in burial in 'holy ground' being a prerequisite to going to heaven.

As far as I know, no other graves have been moved in this church cemetery. It takes a court order to legally move graves in the US, and these seem not to have been moved, they seem to have been desecrated and the stones broken & put to the back of the cemetery. I know of no reason why this would be acceptable.
