Joseph Varnum, son of Joseph and Ruth (Jewett) Varnum, was born 7 May 1710 at Dracut, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, and died there on 26 August 1783. He was burned in the Hamblett Cemetery in Lowell.

He 1st married Rachill Goodhue. They filed the intention of marriage in Dracut, MA, on May 25, 1739. Rachel died Mar. 16, 1746. (burial still unknown)
