About Ragnvald Johan Ekornås
AKA JOHN R JACOBSON He immigrated to the USA in 1914. His draft registration for WWI says that at that time his address was Rt 2 Mohall, ND. He was working as a farm laborer for John Asheim, Renville Twp. He was exempt from the draft because he was a Norwegian citizen. He was 24 and single at the time. He emmigrated with my uncle Olaf and went from Minneapolis to North Dakota. I know Olaf came in through Boston. His Social security death index has his name as John Ragnvald Jacobson. He died October 3, 1973. His last residence was St. Claire Shores, Malcolm, Michigan. USA. He is my first cousin twice removed and I had only heard stories that my grandfather had cousins here. Thank you to the great people on Facebook's Norwegian genealogy page for filling this history in. My mother had told me that grandfather was in Michigan at one time with cousins but nobody knew who the cousin could be until we found this. He switched his first and middle name and took his father's name as his last name. Therefore he became Jacobson in the USA. His home in the 1930 census was Detroit, Michigan. He worked as a Die sinker at an auto factory. he married Viola who was 12 years his junior when he was 36. She immigrated from Sweden in 1923. In the 1930 census he used the Norwegian spelling Jacobsen. When he died he was using Jacobson. The 1940 census shows him, his wife and three sons residing in Michigan.
