About Ralph Waldo Emerson Barton
Ralph Barton was a noted cartoonist and artist, most well-known for his illustrations of Anita Loos's famous book "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes."
He married four times, with one daughter from the first marriage, a second daughter from the second.
He committed suicide by gunshot on May 20, 1931, and the story was reported around the world. He described "melancholy" from childhood, now reaching proportions of what today would be instantly diagnosed as bipolar disorder.
In his note, he also discussed his third wife, Carlotta Monterey, and how he realized she was the love of his life. She had just recently married Eugene O'Neill.
