About Ralph Denman, Sr., of Newhall Grange

Ralph Denman was the son of Nicholas of East Retford, Esq., Ralph married Elizabeth daughter of "Golden" Thomas Wentworth.

Children:

  • his heir was Nicholas Denman (m. Ellen, daughter of Ralph Beeston). His other known children were
  • 2. Thomas Denman of London (m. first Alice daughter of William Heneage; married secondly the widow Alice [Unknown] Allpoole),
  • 3. Ralph Denman, Jr., and
  • 4. Brian Denman.

These facts are corroborated with visitations pedigrees for both the Denman and Wentworth families, along with several additional historical sources.

Somehow his wife, Lady Elizabeth Denman became mistaken as being the wife of a similar-sounding individual, "Ralph DUNham".

Ralph Denman, eldest son of Nicholas Denman and first wife, Elizabeth Eyre, was primary legatee in his father's will, with the Denman children from second wife, Ann Hercy bequeathed with gifts of money and movable property. Stepmother, Ann Hercy Denman, was the chief executrix of his father's will.

Ralph Denman probably received lands from his father, prior to his father's death.
