Raonuil Ban, the 5th chief, met a similar fate at the hands of the Crown and was hanged in 1513.

Join: Scottish Clans Project Discuss: SCOTTISH_CLANS Alexander Mackenzie (1881) suggests that, much like his father, Ranald was also tried and executed before the king at Perth in 1513 while the Reverend Macdonalds suggest he died in 1509 and don't mention an execution.

The Macdonalds suggest Ranald married Catherine Mackintosh, daughter of Lachlan of Gellovie and that he had three sons, Dougall, John, Angus and a daughter, Agnes, who married Robert Robertson of Struan.

They further suggest that Ranald may have married a daughter of Roderick MacLeod of Lewis. Alexander Mackenzie (1881), agrees with this second marriage and the birth of only one son, Dougall and a daughter, Anne.
