The Chronicle of Alberic de Trois-Fontaines names "Alaydam" as the daughter of "comitem de Brana Robertum domnum" & his first wife, naming her first husband "Gallerano de Bertuilh", her second husband "Guidone de Castellone", her third husband "Iohanne castellano Noviomensi" and her fourth husband "comite Suessionensi"[2442]. "Adelais comitissa Suessionensis et domina Montis Gaii" confirmed the donation of property to Paris Hôtel-Dieu, for the soul of "domini Guidonis de Castellione viri mei", by charter dated 1182[2443]. "Gaucherius de Castellione dominus Montisgaii" donated property to Saint-Maur des Fossés, for the soul of "fratris mei Guidonis", with the consent of "domina Adelaide matre mea comitissa Suessionensi et domina Adelaide sorore mea uxore domini Guillelmi de Garlanda", by charter dated 1194[2444]. "Radulfus comes Suessionensis…Aalidis uxor mea" confirmed a donation to the abbey of Notre-Dame d'Ourscamp by charter dated 1199[2445]. "Radulfus (Suessionis) dominus Montis Gaii et Adelidis uxor mee" confirmed a previous donation of property to Tremblay by "filius noster Gaucherus de Castillione" by charter dated Jan 1205[2446], although Gauthier was the son of Raoul's wife by her second marriage. 1160/1205. m secondly YOLANDE, daughter of ---. m thirdly (before 1223) as her second husband, ADA d'Avesnes, widow of HENRI [III] Comte de Grandpre, daughter of JACQUES Seigneur d'Avesnes & his wife Adela de Guise (-after 1249). The late 13th century genealogy by Balduinus de Avennis names "Machtildem, Aelidem, Adeluyam et Agnetem" as the four daughters of "Nicolai Plukelli filius primogenitus Jacobus" and his wife, adding that she married "comiti de Grandi-prato"[2447]. The primary source which confirms her second marriage has not yet been identified. "Johannes comitis Suessionensis primogenitus dominus de Turno et de Cimaio" granted canalisation rights to Notre-Dame de Soissons by charter dated 1 Nov 1213, confirmed by "Radulfus comes Suession. de consensu Adæ uxoris sua et filiorum Johannis domini de Turno et Radulfi" in 1231[2448]. “Ada domina de Hans, quondam comitissa Suessionensis” acknowledged the homage given by her to “Theobaldo regi Navarræ et comiti Campaniæ" by charter dated Dec 1238[2449].

Comte Raoul & his first wife had two children:  

*a) GERTRUDE de Nesle (-[26 Sep 1220/Oct 1222). ... m firstly (annulled) as his first wife, JEAN de Beaumont, son of MATHIEU [II] Comte de Beaumont & his second wife Adela Dame de Luzarches (-1222). ... m secondly (1193) as his first wife, MATHIEU [II] "le Grand" Seigneur de Montmorency, son of BOUCHARD [IV] Seigneur de Montmorency & his wife Laurette de Hainaut (-24 Nov 1230).

Comte Raoul & his second wife had two children:

Raoul le Bon ('Ralph the Good)' (d. 4 January 1235), also known as Raoul III de Nesle, was the Count of Soissons from 1180.[1] He was the third son of Raoul II de Nesle and Gertrude de Montaigu.

In 1178 Raoul and his elder brother John subscribed to a charter of the eldest brother, Conon, then count, donating property to Notre-Dame d'Ourscamp. When Alberic de Trois-Fontaines wrote his chronicle, he could refer to count Raoul of Soissons qui adhuc vivit (who still lives). But he later records his death in 1235. In 1184 Ralph became castellan of Noyon. According to Rigord, he took the Cross alongside Henry II of England and Philip II of France at a ceremony between Trie and Gisors on 13 Jan 1188 and joined the Third Crusade.

Raoul was the fourth husband of Adèle of Dreux (b. 1145/6), daughter of Robert I of Dreux. She confirmed donations to Notre-Dame d'Ourscamp (fr) and Tremblay[disambiguation needed] with him, and died between January 1205 and March 1210. Raoul was briefly married to Yolande, daughter of Geoffrey IV of Joinville, before taking as his third wife Ada d'Avesnes, widow of Henry, Count of Grandpré.

By his first wife Adele he had two daughters:

• Gertrude, married first to Count Jean de Beaumont-sur-Oise (d. 1222), and second to Mathieu II de Montmorency (d.1230), Constable of France.
• Alienor, married first to Count Mathieu III de Beaumont-sur-Oise (d. 1208), and second to Étienne II de Sancerre (d. 1252), Grand Butler of France and son of Stephen I, Count of Sancerre.

By his third wife Ada he had three children:

• John, Count of Soissons
• Ralph (d. 1272), who was probably a trouvère (troubadour)
• Isabelle of Nesle, married to a Viscount of Châtellerault.

Upon the death of Raoul, his son John became Count of Soissons.

Notes

He is described in contemporary writings as comes Radulfus Suessionensis.
