Rasin Gale I was the second known son and child of John Gentleman Gale, member of the upper house (which became the Maryland State Senate) (b.ABT 1704, d.12/6/1775 Kent Co, MD) and his first wife, Elizabeth Rasin (b.11/21/1706 Kent Co, MD,d. 1745 KentCo, MD).

Rasin's grandfather was John Gale, Sr. (of Old Currituck Inlet, NC, b. ABT 1678, d. in February of 1733 in NC, wife unknown)

Rasin's great grandfather was Dr. Abraham Gale of Killybegs Co, Donegal, Ireland, Immigrant to America (d. in January of 1690 in Kent Co, MD, wife's name Sarah _____).

Rasin (earlier spelling is 'Reason') may have married twice, and also, had a child (not named) out of wedlock by Sarah Gyant (b.1/15/1731 in Shrewsbury Parish, Kent Co, MD). In June of 1762 Rasin Gale I, was charged with "having committed fornication with Sarah Gyant" and "begotten a base born child". He was fined 30 shillings, and kicked out of the Quaker Church. Rasin and his family was booted out of the Quaker church, not just for this act of adultry, but also for one of his daughters having a child, before getting married. The Rasin family were Quakers (and some were Catholics), and the Gales were traditioanally Catholics, but had to conform to Henry VIII's Anglican Church while living in England. Probably when Rasin's father, John, got married to Elizabeth Rasin, she tried converting him over to being a Quaker and tried raising her family the same.

Rasin Gale I married Martha Moore (b. ABT 1736 in St Pauls Parish, Chestertown, Kent Co, Maryland, died BEF 1797 Fayette Co, PA) in 1756 in Kent Co, MD. at St. Paul's Church. Martha's parents were William Moore (b. 1/17/1703 in St. Pauls Parish, Kent Co, MD, christened 2/24/1703 in St. Paul's Church, Kent Co, MD, d. 8/17/1781 in Kent Co, MD) and Rachel Medford (b: ABT 1703, d. BEF 1781). Martha's paternal grandparents were John Moore (b. ABT 1680 in Kent Island, MD, Kent Island is part of present day Queen Anne's Co, MD, d. 10/1/1728 in St. Pauls Parish, Kent Co, MD) and Elizabeth Dowland b. 3/6/1680 in Kent Island, Maryland, d. 4/2/1718).

St. Paul's Church is the earliest religious structure in Kent County and, with the possible exception of Old Trinity in Dorchester County, the earliest surviving Anglican Church on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Rasin Gale I may have married a second wife, a sister of his first wife, by the name of Rebecca Moore.

Rasin was a plantation owner. The name of his plantation was Worton Manner, which encomposed the town of present day Worton, MD. He was elected church warden of Shrewsbury Parish on April 12, 1762; elected vestryman on April 23, 1764 of the I.U. Parish of the Esiscopal Church, Chester Parish, Worton, MD in 1772. The name of this church was also known as the Chester Protestant Episcopal Church, and presently known as Christ Church IU, Worton, MD. He held pew #48, in 1768. 'IU' stands for Isaac Usilton, who gave both the land and the money to build the original sanctuary. It was the practice in those days to have the owners initials carved on boundary stones, and in this case a large boundary stone was found near the church with IU carved on it, and It’s been Christ Church IU for a long time.

Raisin Gale I is my 5th great grandfather, and married Martha Moore in 1756. His generation was the first of this Gale family to be born in America. He is the grandfather of Martha Jane Gale, my third great grandmother, who married Abner Nelson Long.

In 8/7/1780 Rasin Gale donated 'merahantable grain' to the Chester Parish (Christ Chruch I.U.) for the clergymen and church repairs.

Rasin Gale was on the Kent County list of original Subscribers, along with His Excellency George Washington, to establish Washington College in Chestertown, MD.
