Rasmus Madsen Schytte was a son of Mads Mikelsen and his successor as parish priest in Lyngdal, but gardly as early as 1579. In such an event he may have sat in the parish for over 70 years and been nearly 100 years old when he dies. But we find him as parish priest as early as 1602 and can determine with that that no other parish priest in Lyngdal after the Reformation has sat so long in the parish as Rasmus Madsen.
In 1610 Herr Rasmus met at Akershus together with the priest Peder Causøn Friis to take part in the oath of succession of Prince Kristian IV's son who never became king. In 1616/17 we find however the Lyngdal priest in the lists of proceeds from the collection of fines, fined because of having handled, in defiance of the king's prohibition on the export of oak timber. Rasmus Madsen had namely sold and disposed of oak timber to some foreign skippers. The fine was unusually hard, 100 "daler" [dollars] all told. Rasmus owned also part of the farms Ytre Nenningsland (1/2 "hud" around 1617, the whole farm in 1647) and Håland in Konsmo (1/2 "hud" mortgaged property in 1647). In 1631 he had in addition bought 1 "hud" in Øvre Berge.
The wife of Rasmus Madsen was probably Swedish, anyway the priest's children got an inheritence after their father's mother in Karlskrona in 1621. In 1645 the priest paid a poll tax for himself and his wife, two sons, six servants and the curate Asbjørn. There was probate after Herr Rasmus in 1651, and six children were then alive: Jens (lived probably at Ytre Nenningsland in the 1640s, thereafter certainly at Bergsager, dead in the 1650s), Peder b. c.1628 (came to Østre Rom and later Tingvatn in Hægebostad), Bergitte or Berte (married 1) to Tollak Kvåvig, married 2) to Finkel Jakobsen Årigstad, Spind, Mette (married to Ståle Stålesen Bringsjord), two daughters who we do not know by name. The last named daughters are know through the parish priest Coldberg, who wrote that "my predecessor's predecessor's predecessor placed a few of his daughters at Rom".'
