The death of Jensine Sofie on May 13, 1926 at age 56 had a profound effect on her family, especially her youngest child Rasmus, who had just celebrated his 16th birthday the day before. My father told me that his mother had been unwell for about a year before her death at Odder Sygehusset. The family unit was completely shattered; the Hansen children had lost both parents and were forced to build new lives. Niels had already returned to USA in March after visiting the family in Denmark and Anker emigrated to Canada one month after his mother's death. Korsgaard farm was inherited and became the home of Jensine's eldest son Hans Nielsen Hansen. Jensine's husband and my grandfather, Niels Jensen Nielsen, moved to Lisbjerg, along with his step-daughter Emme Thora Hansen, who became his housekeeper there. Rasmus Nicolaj Nielsen continued to live at Korsgaard, working for his brother Hans, until he also emigrated to Canada in 1928. Alma Mary Hansen had married Kristian Skov Sorensen in 1922 and had two small children; her home was in Virring so she was least affected by the family upheaval that followed her mother's death.
