WOODLAND (Yolo Co.), September 9 - Only one marriage license was issued this week - William J. STEVENS, age 35, and Mabel ABBOTT, aged 27, both of
Woodland.

$200 Taken From Yolo Post Office

WOODLAND (Yolo Co.), September 9 - News reached Woodland yesterday that the Post Office at Esparto, a small town in the western part of the county, was robbed Wednesday night of $200.

R.E. MURPHY, the Postmaster, placed the money in what he believed to be a
safe place, on leaving the building Wednesday evening, and is sure no one
saw him conceal it. But on opening for business Thursday morning, he
discovered that it was gone.

The burglars effected an entrance through the cellar door and forced
another door leading from the cellar to the storeroom. Nothing has been
missed from the stock of merchandise.

The postal authorities were notified at once by Mr. Murphy, but the local
officers knew nothing of the robbery until Friday morning. So far no clew to
the robbers has been discovered.

SERIOUSLY WOUNDED R, E, Murphy Accidentally Shot at Esparto, The unfortunate Occurrence Takes Place In the Victim's Store-He Is Brought to Woodland for Treatment, Ray E. Murphy, who owns and manages a general merchandise store in Espiirto, was accidentally and perhaps fatally o'clock shot in Thursday his store about 0 evening. The c cumstances, so far as we are able to learn, are about as follows: Murphy and Troy Barr, the youngest sou of Harrison Barr, wore examining a 38-caliber pistol which belonged to Mr, Barr. Later In the night It was decided to bring the wounded man to Woodland and ho arrived nt tho Woodland sanitarium about 3 o'clock this morning. Tho patient bus slnco been restless and has suffered considerable pain. Mr. Murphy's parents llvo In Berkeley. They wore notified and arrived in Davlsvillo on a lato train. Thoy went by team to Madison, only to find that their son had been brought to Woodland. They at once drove to this city and, with hla wife, havo since been at tho bedside of the injured man. Mr. Murphy Is the only eon of Sir, and Mrs. H. N. Murphy. Ho has boon engaged In business In Esparto slnco February, 190-1, and in the meantime he. lias acquired many friends who are much worried on account of his precarious condition.

SHOOTING OF A STOREKEEPER

WOODLAND, March 31.-- R. E. Murphey of Esparto, who
was accidentally shot Thursday evening, died this
morning. Murphey and Troy Barr were examining a 33-
caliber revolver owned by the latter when the weapon
was discharged in some way which could not be
accounted for by either. The ball entered Murphey's
abdomen. He suffered greatly from internal hemorrhages
and sank rapidly after 1 o'clock this morning. The
deceased was a native of Colusa County. He had for
the last two years conducted a general store in
Esparto. He leaves a widow and two children. His
parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Murphey of Berkeley, also
survive him. He was a member of the Masons, Odd
Fellows and Modern Woodmen.

Ray E Murphy Died About 5 A M Saturday
Spoke Calmly of His Affairs When He Realized
Left a Family

In Fridays Democrat there appeared the particulars of the accidental shooting of Ray E Murphy in his place of business at Esparto about 6 oclock Thursday evening. He was also stated on the authority of the physicians in attendance that his chances for recovery were very remote. These fears were well grounded for the young man died at 16 minutes after 5 oclock this morning. After the examination late Friday afternoon there were some evidences that he might rally and hope was not dis? until after 1 oclock this morning when he began to sink rapidly About 3:20[?] o'clock he lapsed into a semiconscious condition from which he did not rally. As a result of the examination the bullet was found under the skin above the left hip but it was not removed. It was also disclosed that he bad lost a great deal of blood on account of internal hemorrhage. This hemorrhage was checked. The wound was not probed and the physicians are not certain whether or not the intestines were cut but the supporting tissues were severed in several places. Just before the examination began, the wife and parents of the young man were admitted to his bedside. He was conscious and talked over his business matters calmly. He begged them not to worry. He said the orders of which he was a member make ample provision for his family. His wife and mother and father saw him no more alive. His two sisters, Mrs. Ada Fleming of Hobarts Mills and Miss Jessie Murphy of Berkeley were not present. Ray Ernest Murphy was a native of Colusa county where he was born on the 24th [26th?] of April 1880. He was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. H. N. Murphy. His parents left that county for Berkeley about five years ago but he remained several months in the employ of C. J. R. Ballard grain dealer. Later he joined his parents in Berkeley and for some time assisted his father who is a builder and contractor. On November 23, 1902, he was married in Esparto to Miss Katie McCloud of that place. She survives him and to them two children were born, a daughter now about 3 years of age and a son about 13 months old. After their marriage they returned to Berkeley and made their home with Mr. Murphy's parents until September of 1903. They then took up In Esparto where he engaged in general merchandising. He was also engaged the insurance [and?] was appointed manager ot the telephone company and postmaster. His resignation of the latter office was sent in a few days prior to the tragedy which ended his life. Deceased was a member of the Capay Lodge of Odd Fellows, the Madison Lodge of Masons, and the Arbuckle Camp of Modern Woodsmen. Mr. Murphy during his brief residence in many warm friends by whom he was re? as an honest and upright man. The bereaved family have the deepest sympathy of the entire community. The body was taken to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Troy Barr this afternoon. At 10 oclock Sunday morning the funeral proc2:30 pm, Rev. T. G. Picton will officiate. Interment will be in the Odd Fellows cemetery at Capay.

Ray Murphy Dies
WOODLAND (Yolo Co.), March 31 - Ray E. MURPHY, who was accidentally shot at Esparto by Troy BARR, as told in The Bee yesterday, died here this morning about 5 o'clock. Barr is a son of Harrison BARR, of Esparto. The shooting was entirely accidental and the affair is deeply deplore

The body was taken to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Troy Barr this afternoon. At 10 oclock Sunday morning the funeral procession will start for Esparto. Services will be held in the Murphy residence at 2:30 pm, Rev. T. G. Picton will officiate. Interment will be in the Odd Fellows cemetery at Capay.
