GALENA, Ill. -- Raymond F. "Ray" Davenport, 85, of Galena, passed into life eternal Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 225 West 10th St., Dubuque, where friends may call after 10 a.m. A private family burial of the cremated remains will be made in the Church Columbarium. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena.

He was born on Feb. 3, 1926, in Muscatine, Iowa, and adopted at the age of 6 months by Frederick and Clara Mae (Reavis) Davenport. He was raised in Grinnell, Iowa, and graduated from Grinnell High School in May 1944. Ray attended North Central Bible College, Sioux Falls College, University of Chicago and graduated from the University of Iowa.

He lived and worked in Chicago and its suburbs working for Secretaries Inc., Brain Research Foundation, Commerce Clearing House and The Christian Brothers of Illinois.

Ray was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, MU Deuteron Chapter.

Surviving are Alfred "Al" Christensen, his beloved partner in life for 58 years; Al's family; a dear friend since childhood, Betty Hannagan, and her family; his cousins and their families; his wonderful and caring church family at the First Congregational United Church of Christ; and countless neighbors and friends from near and far.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Jan 16 2021, 1:20:04 UTC
