About Reb Leb Miller

wiki page: http://familytree.wikidot.com/reb-leb-miller

Reb Leb and Jennie Miller lived in Zharan, Lithuania. Sonya Rudaitsky Essas wrote "About Millers I don't remember almost nothing. I only remember that my grandfather and grandmother were born in Jarau [sp.?] near Telsh" . Ruth Kaplan said that he was Rebbe Leb from the Telz Yeshiva and that he was a very learned gentleman. They must have either lived in Telz or he attended the Yeshiva which was founded in 1875. They had at least three children between 1848 and 1851: Chana, Rivke, and Shoena. One tradition has Chana born in Telz or nearby Salant. Assuming that Leb and Jennie were both about the same age, married in their early twenties, that the three daughters appeared early in the marriage and early in a sequence of children, Reb Leb and Jennie might have been born in the 1820s. If so, then he was in his fifties at the founding of the yeshiva, too old for a yeshiva bocher. Was he a teacher or was there another, more tenuous or honorific connection?

My mother says that Miller descendants went to Pittsburgh and started a construction business. She met two brothers in Atlantic City in 1926 or 1927 who were engineers. They looked liked Moishe Itzach Marowitz's nephews Yudel and Joe.
