Born in Connecticut to Rev. Dan Foster and Rebecca Walkley Booge, (–1775). Her mother probably died in childbirth. After her father remarried, to Elizabeth (Mather) Hayden, #24672516, the family moved to Weathersfield, VT and Charlestown, NH. She married (1) Nathaniel Prentes, a widower from New London. One child, Nathaniel Prentis, was born and died in Weathersfield. The family moved to Plymouth by 1806.

Nathaniel bought a mill but was accidentally killed when a rafter fell on him in 1809. She married (2) in 1811 Col. William Monroe, a Revolutionary War veteran, also a widower with children. They both died in 1838. One son, Nathaniel C. Prentiss, (ca 1798–1876) was a carpenter and became an architect and builder in the Midwest.

After a stop in Rochester, NY, he went to Milwaukee and Janesville, Wisconsin. He was in charge of the construction of the first capitols of Wisconsin and Minnesota. He died in St. Paul after choking on a bone. No one mourned his passing.
