Rebecca and Shadrack's son George's grave has been discovered near Lake Michie, in northern Durham County, NC. His tombstone shows that he is the son of Shadrick (sic) Roberts. We have dubbed this one the Shadrick Cemetery although it is probably more accurately the Roberts family cemetery. Shadrack is a member of the Roberts family that has been prominent in the Bahama community for generations.
Rebecca was listed as Rebecca Roberts on her marriage bond #6383, recorded in Granville county, NC, but husband shown as Shadrack Robards instead of Roberts. Her brother Ezekiel Veazey was the bondsman. Roberts was often spelled Robards in the early records. His name was also spelled Shadrick on his son George's tombstone. The location of this family cemetery is currently in northern Durham County, which was formed from Orange and Wake Counties in 1881. Prior to that year this area was in Orange County. The Veazey family lived near the county line between Granville and Orange counties. Some lived on one side of the line and some on the other. Some business was conducted in Orange County and some in Granville. Records for the Veazey family are amply [aptly?] recorded in both.
