About Rep. Thomas Sprigg, (DemRep-MD)

For anyone reading this, I am about to delete this link to my genealogy. I am convinced that this is not the father of John Spriggs buried in the Spriggs Summerour cemetery. Quite simply, the dates to not add up and there is no primary source evidence of which I am aware to make the connection. Hopefully Geni will not make this too painful to correct.

I will shortly upload a will that I believe belongs to the Thomas Spriggs who is the father of John Spriggs as this genealogy reflects.

Also, I do not believe this Thomas Spriggs comes from Foxton, Leicestershire England. I checked the records there and the records there simply do not match the dates and other pieces of information for this Thomas Spriggs.

I have found evidence of a Richard Sprigg, operating in the Tryon County region of North Carolina, parts of which eventually became part of South Carolina. I am exploring that lead. The year recorded with Richard suggests that he is old enough to be Thomas' father, or uncle.

If anyone has any definitive, primary source information, please contact me

April Term 1778

JONATHAN POTTS and JEAN POTTS, orphan children of JEREMIAH POTTS, dec'd came into Court being of Lawful age and chose THOMAS SPRIGGS, their Guardian. SPRIGGS entered into Bond of 500 pounds.

Based on the following land deed records, I now believe that this Thomas Spriggs at one time lived in North Carolina

Online Source http://www.logan-family.org/doc/logan_families.html

These land surveys indicate a Thomas Spriggs, living near a George and Ezekiel Potts – believe that Thomas Spriggs married a Potts. I have the records that mention Potts as well and will add them once I have figured out who Susanna's Father or uncle were (brother?)
