About Reuben M. McKinney

Reuben was a large, red-headed man of Scottish descent. His father was William McKinney

Reuben was born about 1785, perhaps on Cane Creek. The McKinneys may have come from Rutherford County, but they were in Burke County by at least 1790. Reuben's first marriage was to Mary Baker, daughter of David Baker and Mary Webb.

Frances Mosley was his second wife. Frances was born 4/1811 in Carter County, but had come to Bakersville by 1830, as her name is in the accounts ledger of the Baker Store, along with a Rindy (Merinda?) Mosley. Reuben and Fanny were married by 1832.

Reuben M. McKinney Sr. and Wife Frances Mosley are buried in the Wilson Cemetery in the McKinney Cove, marked by a large field stone monument. Unfortunately, there are no dates, but the inscription, "Resting in Hope of a Glorious Resurrection." Reuben died some after 9/1863; in that month he transferred property to those children to whom he hadn't already done so. Fanny lived past 1900, as she was on that census in the household of her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Marion Wilson.

Reuben and Frances had 9 children.
