Reuben Jencks Whipple

According to son Daniel Decker Whipple, Reuben Jencks died August 1859, in Amboy Center, NY.

According to the dates in Sarah Ann Lester Whipple's family Bible, Reuben Jencks, her husbands' brother was born Nov 12, 1797 & died Oct 16, 1860. There is no longer a grave stone for Reuben Jencks in the Amboy Cemetery where his wife Deborah Mapes Whipple & his parents are both buried, although there is a space between Deborah & his parents that looks as if a grave were there & a stone, once. There are a lot of partial gravestones leaning against a tree at the back of the cemetery, but piled one on top of the other, we could not see one that looked like it belonged to him.

Located just east of the hamlet of Amboy Center, on the south side of NYS Rt. 69, in the Town of Amboy, Oswego, Co. Shows sign of "Bicentennial" cleaning; some areas have been filled in recently with native red soil. Only a thin weed cover, not much thick grass. Many footstones have been moved and are leaning against headstones. There are flags on the graves of veterans - some metal markers are still in place. Latest grave is 1968. Surveyed 18 September 1979 - H.S., H.S. & Y.C.S. The initials appear to be the people that enumerated the cemetery in 1979. We visited here in 1998 & the headstones of Reuben, Alice Sprague, his wife, their daughter-in-law Deborah Mapes, wife of Reuben J are clearly visible.
