About Rev. Asaph Butler

Birth: Mar. 17, 1729 Lancaster Worcester County Massachusetts, USA Death: 1806 Vermont, USA

Rev Asaph Butler was the father of Ezra Butler, past Governor of Vermont, who is also buried in Hope Cemetery. He was married to Jenet McAllister. They were the parents of Ezra, and Joel Butler who was a Revolutionary War soldier, as well as several other children. Asaph also served in the Revolution and is D.A.R. number 142333.

His children With Jenet are listed below with thanks to Mary Ann Bumgarner for part of this list.

Joel Butler #76621404 b. 3/31/1752 Mindwell Butler #6121250 b. 6/27/1753 Amos Butler b. 8/6/1755 Annis Butler #136728774 b. 8/16/1757 Achsah Butler(f) b. 2/21/1760 Asaph Butler Jr #37096500 b. 6/22/1762 Ezra Butler #13507219 b. 9/24/1763 James Daniel Butler #13780965 b. ca 1770 Eunice Butler b. 8/16/1767

It is unclear if she is the daughter of Jenet, as the birth record lists only the father, but if we have Jenet's death date correct, this is correct. It turns out that in fact, there were two different Eunice Butlers, one born in 1767, the other in 1776, who was the daughter of Asaph and Lydia.

His second wife was Lydia Tuttle #151843184 b. 7/20/1741 The date of their marriage is unknown, but we know they had two daughters. Eunice Butler b. 11/9/1776 in Weathersfield, VT Susannah H. Butler b. 3/12/1779 in Weathersfield, VT
