About Rev. Charles Marryat
Born in London 26 June 1827 in London, and educated at Eton and Queen's College, Oxford. He started as Deacon at Canterbury in 1850, and was confirmed as a priest there in 1851. He then served as Chaplain to Penal Establishments in N.S.W. from 1852-1853, before becoming Assistant Curate at Holy Trinity Church in Adelaide (1853-1857). In 1856 he also took on the position of Canon of Adelaide (1856-1868). He was the incumbent at Port Adelaide (1857-1868), rector at North Adelaide (1868-1906), Archdeacon of Adelaide (1868-1887), Dean of Adelaide (1887-1906) and Vicar General in 1896. Married Grace Mongemery in 1854, with whom he nine children. Died at North Adelaide 29 September 1906.
