About Rev. Charles Floyd Root, Sr.
The Rev. Charles F. Root Sr., 68, of East Wenatchee, died Monday, July 12, 1993, of cancer, at his home.
He was born Feb. 23, 1925, to Elmer and Loretta (Pettengill) Root, in India where his parents were missionaries.
He married Blossom Sweetapple on May 29, 1946, at Brooklyn, N.Y.
He graduated from Seattle Pacific University in 1946, New York Theological Seminary in 1949, and later attended Bloomfield Seminary in Bloomfield, N.J., Garret Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill. and Drew Theological Seminary in Madison, N.J.
He served as pastor of churches in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania from 1949 to 1960. He and his family were missionaries of the United Methodist Church from 1960 through 1974, at ]Sarawak, ]Borneo, where he taught and administered at ]Sibu Theological Seminary. He then pastored churches at Omak, Nooksack, Bremerton, Camas and Montesano until his retirement in 1987, when they moved to East Wenatchee.
He was a past member of the Lions Club and Kiwanis, and was involved in many community activities until he became ill.
He is survived by his wife, of the home; three sons, Charles F. Jr. of Vacaville, Calif., Lewis E. of Oroville and Kenneth D. of Oso; his parents, of Warm Beach; two brothers, Stephen E. of Battleground and Philip M. of San Francisco, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
