Emigrated as a mission school graduate in 1854 to join the newly-founded (1850) Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod.
Father of Rev. Karl Koehler (Kingston, Wisconsin and professor at Northwestern College, Watertown, Wisconsin 1921-1924 and editor of Faith Life, 1929-1948).
Christian Philipp Koehler (also went by Philipp) was born in Neuwied, on the Rhine River, in Germany. He was the son of a brocade linen weaver. He graduated from Barmer Missionhaus in 1854 and came to America that same year. On June 20, 1855 he married Apollonia Schick in Addison, WI. He served as pastor at a couple of Lutheran Churches in Washington County, WI from 1855-1857. In 1858 he became pastor of First German Lutheran Church in Manitowoc, WI and served as pastor there until 1867. He then served Bethany Lutheran Church in Hustisford from 1867 until his death in 1895
