About Rev. David Greene

Rev. David Greene (Green)

David Greene was born 15 November 1797 in Stoneham, Middlesex County, Massachusetts to Thomas Greene (1757-1842) and Anna Knight (1758-1813) and died 7 April 1866 Westborough, Worcester County, Massachusetts of unspecified causes. He married Mary Evarts (1806-1850) 11 November 1829 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.

The engraving on the headstone under the name reads "Formerly Secretary of the ABCFM"

This refers to David Greene's having served as corresponding secretary of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions for 20 years. He wrote missionaries working in the field, on behalf of the Board. He also served on the Board itself. He was an excellent guide for them, giving practical advice and translating legal and financial matters into straightforward directions. He was tactful, kind, and respected. David Greene was for twenty years the corresponding secretary of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions.

David Greene was born 15 November 1797 in Stoneham, Middlesex County, Massachusetts to Thomas Greene (1757-1842) and Anna Knight (1758-1813) and died 7 April 1866 in Westborough, Worcester County, Massachusetts of unspecified causes. He married Mary Evarts (1806-1850) 11 November 1829 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.

David Greene, was for twenty years the corresponding secretary of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. In his eighth year the family moved to Westborough, Massachusetts, and two years later to Windsor, Vermont.
