About Rev. Edward Dale
Edward Dale, ordained priest by the bishop of Lincoln, 10 June, 1564, vicar of Legsby (61. ^s. 2d.) t of his own patronage ; aged 35 ; married ; resides upon his aforesaid vicarage ; understands but little Latin, and is but little versed in sacred learning ; performs the holy [mysteries], etc., as above . Canterbury and York Society, Volume: 11, Church of England. That Edward Dale was a nephew to John Hamby, the grandfather of the Hamby family who inherited the properties of Governor Dale in Virginia.
Possibly, though not certainly, the father of Sir Thomas Dale and his siblings. Documentation is lacking but there is circumstantial evidence to suggest it.
Possibly referred to as "my brother[-in-law] Dale's son" in the will of Agnes Reade, nee Hamby, in 1537. (Alternatively this may have been an older brother, possibly Francis.)
