FRENCH--At Jersey City, N. J., Feb. 5th, 1885, Rev. Edward W. French; aged 55 years. Interred in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Rockland County Journal, Volume 00000000, February 14 1885, Page 5.

DR. EDWARD W. FRENCH.

The Rev. Dr. Edward W. French, age 56 years, pastor of the Bergen Presbyterian Church, Jersey City, died on Wednesday. He was a brother-in-law of Judge Seth B. Cole, of Nyack. He was born in Vermont, and was called to the pastorate of the Bergen Church in 1858. Under his uninterrupted services of twenty-six years the church prospered until now it has one of the largest congregations in the city, and one of the finest church edifices in the State. In 1884 he tendered his resignation on account, of failing health, but it was not accepted. His church gave him an unlimited vacation, and he went to Bermuda and afterward to California, returning in September apparently with renewed health. In January he contracted a severe cold which developed into remittent fever, from which he died. His remains will be interred to-day (Saturday) in Oak Hill Cemetery.
