Eli Baldwin, son of Jotham Baldwin and Joanna Baldwin (cousins), was b. in Connecticut Farms, New Jersey, on Nov. 1,1791; an eminent divine, generally known as Rev.Eli.,D.D. He m. on May 8,1827, with PHEBE VAN NEST, dau. Abraham Van Nest and Margaret Field, b. Jan. 31,1801.

Children were: Theodore Eli (3/22/1828; m. Elizabeth Bushnell), Henry Rutgers (9/18/1829; m. Elizabeth Rutgers), Margaret (8/11/1831), John Van Nest (4/17/1834; d. 1874 Germany), Alfred Jotham (3/31/1836; m. Fanny Dill), and George Van Nest (1/23/1838).
